With its rich history and center stage location, the newly renovated Hotel Allegro embodies both classic and contemporary, incorporating decor elements from its storied past with a decidedly 21st century influence. Here, visitors are encouraged to "be a star" and take full advantage of the celebrity treatment given to each and every hotel guest.
Opened as the Bismarck Hotel in 1926, the property was originally an Art Deco masterpiece, filled with marble accents, custom brass fixtures and stately design. Converted to the Hotel Allegro in 1998, the new property used playful theatrical and musical elements to highlight the hotels location amidst the citys theater and cultural attractions. In 2008, interior designer Martha Angus was brought on board to craft a design concept that would artfully tell the Hotel Allegros modern Be a Star" story while maintaining a reverence for the buildings past. The result is a design that takes guests through the eras, from the 1920s to modern day, using an explosion of colors, luxurious fabrics and sleek accent pieces throughout the hotel.
Hotel Allegro offers 483 guestrooms and suites. The hotel is centrally located in the heart of the business and theater districts, across from city hall and the State of Illinois building, three blocks from State Street Shopping and minutes by cab from the Magnificent Mile, Grant Park, The Art Institute, Navy Pier, McCormick Place and the United Center.

- EarthCare Products: Comprehensive recycling facilities; Use of non-chemical cleaning products; use of recycled and natural paper compounds; organic coffee, tea, wine and snacks; low flow water systems (showers, faucets, and toilets); energy efficient lighting; soaps, shampoos, and conditioners made from socially and environmentally responsible companies; reusable mugs replacing plastic, styrofoam, and paper cups; and, signage and displays created to communicate EarthCare to the general public.
- EarthCare Practices: Nationwide Eco Champions Organization of over 50 employees; formal back of house recycling programs; hosted public sustainability event Come Get Dirty with Us; weekly tips and environmental information through company newsletter; coat hangers recycled back to dry cleaning company; styrofoam and food packaging eliminated from back of house; towel and linen reuse program; environmental purchasing policy on internal on-line catalog; eWaste recycling program established; created best practices recommendations (over 30 practices and growing) for all hotels to incorporate over the lifetime of the program; and, unused amenities donated to local charities.
EarthCare's first environmental distinction was the 2006 GeoTourism Award from the National Geographic Traveler and Travel Industry Association of America (TIA). Since then, Kimpton hotels have been recognized by the California Environmental Protection Agency, San Francisco Green Business Program, American Hotel and Lodging Association, Massachusetts Good EarthKeeping, Salt Lake City e2 Sustainability Award, Portland BlueWorks and Outstanding Sustainable Style Achievement (OSSA). |
